This is our dog, Rauhdy, (pronounced Rowdy). Rauhdy is a 6-year-old blue heeler/black lab. We live on a large lot and have a closed and locked gate to the outside street that we live far back from. Rauhdy retrieves the paper each morning without being told when he is let outside. The person who delivers The Oklahoman knows to throw the paper over the gate. Neither rain, sleet, hail nor snow will stop this dog from doing his job of delivering The Oklahoman to us. He has been doing this since he was about 4 months old. Rauhdy is really smart and always wants to please us with his work. A dog treat is his reward.
This smart dog knows hand language. He will sit, lay, roll over and come to us obeying hand signals we have taught him. When he is finished eating, we can ask him to bring his bowl for washing. He scoops it up with his teeth and will stand with it in his mouth until we take it from him. Also, he will pick up the other two dogs’ dishes when we ask. He is the greatest working dog we have. Rauhdy loves to visit elderly folks we know, loves riding in the pickup and playing with the grandchildren when they visit.
