The new uniforms are black, with royal blue trim on the shoulder epaulets and will bear the new Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office logo patch on the shoulders, according to a statement issued Tuesday.
"There was a need for new uniforms because the gray uniforms were extremely old, were in poor repair, and had begun to look unprofessional,” Sheriff Joe Lester said.
"They were also more expensive to replace. The new uniforms are more practical, much more durable and easier to maintain.”
Lester also stated the new sheriff’s office logo will be painted on all vehicles in the fleet. The logo, designed by Sgt. Dan Piazza and Deputy David Bigley, appeared on a few vehicles during the summer as large magnetic signs placed on otherwise plain vehicles.
"The logo incorporates Cleveland County’s outline and displays the words ‘Sheriff’ clearly”, Lester said. "With the new uniform design and the new logo, the public will have no problems identifying the officers or the cars as Cleveland County sheriff deputies.”
The sheriff expects to have all department vehicles uniformly marked by the end of February. In the meantime, sheriff’s vehicles with old and new markings will be in use.
